During this holiday, Muslims commemorate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham in the Bible) to sacrifice his son Ismail (Ishmael) as an act of obedience to God's command. However, just as he was about to sacrifice his son, Allah replaced Ismail with a ram, which Ibrahim then sacrificed instead.
Qurbani, also known as Eid al-Adha or the Festival of Sacrifice, is an Islamic holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide. It falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic calendar.
Muslims who can afford it are required to sacrifice an animal, typically a sheep, goat, cow, or camel, during the first three days of Eid al-Adha. The meat from the sacrifice is divided into three parts: one for the person offering the sacrifice and their family, one for friends and neighbors, and one for the poor and needy.
Qurbani is an important part of the Eid al-Adha celebration and is meant to symbolize sacrifice, obedience, and charity.
